T_Tronix 0 Posted March 1, 2011 I work with After Effects and Photoshop CS5 also 3D Maya and I am now looking to upgrade my very old Ati X800XL 256 MB video card (ya bought it over 5yrs ago...). I don't want something expensive and I believe more RAM is better. I don't play games on my PC and I might be watercooling the video card. If anyonw knows a good vid card and a good waterblock to go with it please let me know
Elmo 20 Posted March 1, 2011 You need an AGP card ? (I guess so), to be honest i don't know any good AGP video card ... The last one I've seen is Radeon HD 4670, something like ~100$ .... Not that good, but for an old system, it's ok i guess ...
Boulard83 4 Posted March 1, 2011 (edited) Some video rendering program use CPU and/or GPU to work. So maybe a fast GPU is a good idea to accelerate your work. Cheap : GTS450 Good : GTX460 or GTX560 Better : GTX570 Best : GTX580 Wich prog your using ? Edit : Good point for the AGP Elmo, your using your 980x rig for the rendering or an old computer ? T_Tronix 0 Posted March 1, 2011 I sold most of the parts from my old rig, the X800XL is a temp fix until I purchase this new vid card. I am trying to find something affordable the 580 is very expensive... It will be used with the i7 980X.
Boulard83 4 Posted March 1, 2011 The GTX460/560 are excellent card. If your encoding prog can use CUDA, an Nvidia card is a must have. Its all about the prog your using ?
Elmo 20 Posted March 1, 2011 Yeah, my P4 has a X8xx XTGT whatever .... pretty kicking ass at the time (Like 6-7 year) ... Did the upgrade from a 9800 (ATI young people) ... Edit : ok, sorry about the assumption ;-) ....

1o80B 0 Posted March 1, 2011 (edited) I use After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator, Maya...Then check if they support CUDA.And buy FAST HDD, they are the bottleneck for your 980X. Edited March 1, 2011 by 1o80B
